Q. Who will operate the school?
| A. We are in discussions with a teaching religious order to run the school. We cannot name the religious order yet because the official invitation has to be presented by the Bishop and accepted by the Mother Superior of the order first.
Q. What will be the cost to build Bishop Baker Catholic High School?
| A. Until the construction committee finishes the work on plans and projections, it would be difficult to furnish an estimate at this time. Estimated construction costs will be announced when it becomes available.
Q. What will the curriculum be? Will there be an IB program?
| A. The curriculum will be college prep. IB versus partnering with a college for college level classes will be decided by the headmaster and the education committee. A student with a diploma from a top quality Catholic high school with an outstanding transcript and college credit from a partnering college is a student in high demand. Also, average and good students from a top quality Catholic high school are in far more demand than comparable students from public schools.
Q. What will the tuition be?
| A. Tuition is estimated to be comparable to the diocesan average costs for high school tutition, currently in the mid $6,000 range.
Q. Will there be tuition assistance?
| A. There will be tuition assistance and there are several new methods of funding Catholic high school tuition. One option is partnering with local companies to set up part time employment for students, and their wages are paid to the school to assist that student with tuition. Grants, corporate scholarships and parish assistance will also be explored.
Q. When will the school open?
| A. Our time frame is: fundraising from 2008-2010; design from 2009-2011; staffing from fall 2011 to summer 2012; construction from 2011 to 2012; commencement of classes for the freshman class in fall 2012; with one class to be added per year until full. Anticipated first year enrollment is 50 freshmen. Class sizes will grow as additional classes are added.
Q. Will the school offer any sports programs?
| A. The school will be full service, with major interscholastic sports offered. However, football probably will not be offered until classes get to be around 100 per class.
Q. Where will the school be located?
| A. We do not have a street address at this time. Property has been purchased on Carolina Forest Boulevard across from Avalon subdivision. The size of the property is 75 acres and 45-50 acres will be used for the high school.
